OLIVIER BERNIER
Mistress of the Arts, Madame de Pompadour and the glamour of France
Sunday, December 5th 3:00 pm
Classroom Building – Room 200
She was young, she was charming, she was King Louis XV’s mistress; but
Mme de Pompadour was also a gifted actress, a highly intelligent woman and a
great collector. She commissioned artists like Boucher and Van Loo to
decorate her houses; she was responsible for the creation of the Sèvres
porcelain manufacture; and her furniture, made by great cabinet makers, was
second only to the King’s. This lecture will show the best of the French
18th century and the woman who made it all possible.
